Branding sustainably and learning curves.
In 2019, Pennybridge Creative launched an initiative to become a more environmentally conscious design studio. Whilst we put a number of measures in place, I decided to lead by example and create a product I was passionate about and showcase that it could be done ethically and sustainably with little or no compromise to the final product.
Hence, Gather Supply Co. was born. A surf wax and sun cream product that is handmade using natural ingredients and packaged in reusable, recyclable and/or compostable packaging.
Available to the public Spring 2020.
The
Brief.
The brand Gather was concieved as we were sourcing or gathering the ingredients used for the wax and zinc locally. The Beeswax from local beekeepers in Currumbin, the coconut oll from local coconut trees and the pine resin extracted from local pine forests.
As the ingredients are gathered from the land to create a product for the sea, we though it was important to bring land and sea together in the branding while also creating an environmentally friendly aesthetic.
We also wanted the brand to be simple and timeless so we put together a pine tree and wave to showcase land and sea coming together. The colour palette was created in much the same way, the green representing the pine trees and sand representing the beach and the colour of the wax. Brought together with screen negatives of pine stumps, the brand is uniquely positioned as conduit for change for the betterment of our environment on both land and sea.
